The Crossfield Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Town of Crossfield, is hosting a Regional Career Fair!

Our hope is to bring together job seekers and local industry to explore  career options, and showcase education pathways towards those careers, available right in our regional backyard. Crossfield and the region are lucky to have many industrial businesses that hire skilled tradespeople. This will be a day to come out and learn about opportunities to upgrade your skills and match them to high quality employment opportunities nearby. The expanded Career Fair format will showcase paths towards local industry careers with a strong focus on the trades. Participants will have a chance to engage with instructors, journeymen and employers and see some of the trades in action, like welding. A primary goal of the Crossfield Regional Career Fair is to raise the awareness of young Albertans, newcomers, and adults changing careers, of the skilled trades and professions available in each economic sector, including pathways for education, apprenticeship, and training.

High school partners will bring students keen to learn about emerging and available careers in the trades and where to get the training after high school to pursue the featured opportunities. SAIT and Red Deer Polytechnic will be some of the post-secondary partners on hand to share opportunities for education and upgrading options available for local career seekers.

Elements of a traditional job fair will also be part of the day, so businesses and job hunters looking for immediate or summer job opportunities can connect with each other. A variety of local opportunities for both students and adults will be on display.

Additional Career Fair partners like Goodwill Industries, CAREERS:The Next Generation, The Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Trade will share information for employers about the support they can offer to employers. Goodwill will share a presentation about how businesses can expand their scope of inclusive hiring practices. A more diverse workforce provides new prospective employees and better business practices within our community.

A morning high school student focus will be followed up by a catered lunch with educational presentations for all participating employers.  Doors will be open to the general public for the remainder of the event. Job seekers will have a chance to meet face to face with potential employers and learn more about opportunities to enter the skilled trade workforce.

Communities around the Calgary region are attracting new residents and growing quickly, but Crossfield is unique with their large industrial sector and reliance on hiring skilled journeymen and tradespeople to keep their businesses operating and growing.
